REVIEWS:
"So my wife and I were in Brookings OR for thr Wild Rivers Film Festival where our film, Art Thief, was playing and ended up winning major awards. But in the middle of it, between screenings, we were starving and needed to grab a bite to eat. The restaurant we targeted next to the theater where our film was playing had a 45 min wait. So googling local restaurants, Station 1949 popped up and it was right across the street.
We hurried over there and upon entrance were immediately greeted by owner and host William, who was old school gracious and quickly explained they had a comprehensive wine list but once the entertainment started, there was no food - and I had a hard time processing what he was saying, partially because I was starving and upon hearing "no food" I disconnected from his sincere apologies - but more so because I was so distracted by what I could only describe as the voice of an angel.
This was a very small, intimate setting with maybe ten or 15 tables pocketed into a small two level arrangement decorated as a 1940's speak easy, and I half looked around expecting see Sinatra working on a dame at one of tiny tables in a corner somewhere.
There was no escaping that voice, it permeated and wrapped around you like sirens from Greek mythology luring me in and away from my hunger...and we were both so captivated, we abandoned our search for.one kind of sustenance- food for our bodies - and replaced it with another: food for our souls.
As William seated us and took our wine orders, I searched for the technology that was capable of transforming a local Oregonian into a Broadway diva - and found none. It was all Hayley. As spellbound as I was I couldn't help but try to fathom how....how could a place like Brookings Oregon, albeit a place with a coastline as melodical as this trance inducing voice we were being swept away by, and two and half treacherous driving hours through Grant's Pass from the nearest commercial airport, possibly have talent like this???
One of our film's stars, Keith Szarabajka whose film and television accomplishments demonstrate his unending talent for acting (Google him) was delayed a day in his arrival and could not attend the next night in time for Haley's one hour performance, but in his stead we brought the film festival organizer, Dan Springen ( Google him too) the next night and although he thought my wife and I were exaggerating, he too was swept away - including showing us his arm that had hair standing on end with one rendition of a song Haley performed, and alternatively trying to hide his tears with another. And Dan is no butterfly, a big strapping bear of a man brought to his knees by her voice.
I will close by saying this - I dont write reviews, i don't have time and I consider them just opinions of no value aside to the one who is tossing it out there, but I had to write this. If you think this is an exaggeration, just listen to her once (and I haven't even mentioned her physical beauty or her poised stage presence) and then call me a liar. I dare you...."
